The Next Fund Manager 2011 GAME MECHANICS BASKET SELECTION Each team will have a virtual budget of one million dollars to form a basket of equity and bond funds out of the (more than) 400 choices available from the online portal of FSM. Basket selection will be made available once registration starts. Participants can also make use of the tools and online platform made available by FSM/NTU-IIC to do research or to monitor their portfolio. The use of all tools from FSM and NTU-IIC are optional and other tools are allowed.
PRELIMINARY ROUND The preliminary round will commence once the registration period starts. Teams will assume the role of fund managers and are required to make decisions on how to invest their virtual money of one million dollars. They will be able to select any unit trust on sale on www.fundsupermart.com. Teams are to invest at least $500,000 of the initial sum into their basket. Participants are to submit proposals presenting their findings and justifying their choices. Requirements for report: - should not exceed 5 pages, excluding appendix and coverpage. - coverpage should include team name and team member's name. - font size 11, Calibri. "Taking Your First Step into the Investing Realm with Unit Trusts" Talk
There will be seminars held by Fundsupermart in effort to educate students regarding funds. Attendance of seminars is optional. This talk is NOT related to the competition.
SEMI-FINALS 8 teams will be shortlisted to make a presentation to a panel of judges with a Q & A session after each round of presentation. They will be given approximately one week's notice from the preliminary results' date of release to prepare. There will be no restriction on the medium used or presentation style to allow for creativity.
Semi-Finals Judging Criteria Each report will be marked at least twice or by 2 individuals to ensure fairness. The average grade will then be taken. The written report carries an 80% weightage while the presentation will carry 20% weightage in the selection of the top 8 teams to enter into finals.
FINALS The top two teams from the Semi-Final round of each university will proceed to compete against one another in the Finals. At the Finals, these top 8 teams are expected to display higher level of thinking, creativity and foresight in the market. On 11th March 2011 (a day before the Finals), all 8 teams will be given a question via email at 10.00am. After a day of preparation, each team will then be required to present their response to a panel of judges consisting of professionals and senior managers from Fundsupermart. (Sample Question: If there is an earthquake in the United States causing disruption to airport operations, how would you change your portfolio and why?) Participants are allowed to go beyond the funds distributed by Fundsupermart and venture into any sort of investments. The best team will emerge as the winner of the Next Fund Manager.
