Content
Workshop 1
Workshop 1 focuses on how and where to invest your money in financial markets with a non-quantitative perspective. This workshop aims to provide the information and tools that are or can be used in gauging qualitative value to businesses.

Warren Buffet's style of investing has been illuminated through this workshop where we encourage long-term investing.

Workshop 2
Taking cue from workshop-1 we continue the fundamental analysis of industries or firms in a more quantitative perspective. We will learn how to valuate companies and gauge potential value of firms. We will continue with financial analysis which helps investors to calculate the intrinsic value of the firms.

Who should come down for the workshop?
Anyone who is interested in understanding the basics of investing, how to valuate stocks and how to time entry and exit investment decisions should attend this workshop. No background or previous knowledge on the subject is required.

How would you benefit?
1. You will be able to understand and interpret ongoing economic conditions.
2. You will be able to do a qualitative and quantitative analysis of an industry/firm.
3. You will be able to obtain a greater understanding on how Warren Buffett does his stock picking

Discussion

Introduction
The discussion group by the research and education team is setup to provide a platform for experienced investors to impart and showcase their knowledge to their fellow peers. Current market situation as well as world financial markets outlook will be discussed during the start of the discussion. This will then be followed by individual presentation on one’s research and in depth reading.

Dates and Time of the Discussion
Dates: 24 Sept 2009
Time: 530pm to 630pm

The idea of such discussion is also to expose members to various “real life” individual techniques and also to allow one to speak of their own philosophy confidently. What is ultimately aimed to achieve in these discussions group meetings is to harness the knowledge of students, who may be private investors, and to educate the masses who are keen to be future investors themselves. Eventually, some of these students may become professionals in the finance industry themselves and certainly, there is no better time other than now for these zealous students to begin their investment careers.

Dialogue & i-Night seminars

The NTU IIC Dialogue and i-Night seminars are part of our education programme introduced in August 2009, focused on our vision of “Towards a Knowledgeable Investing Student Population”. Hoping to achieve a diversified and holistic education programme, we have decided to base our education efforts on three topics, "My Money Matters", "My Investments" and "My Career, My Future". These will be presented through dialogue sessions and i-Nights that have been planned for the upcoming year.

IIC Dialogues aim to bring together investment leaders and prominent figures in the finance industry to share about current investment issues. Each session will feature distinguished guest speakers and panel discussions, providing a platform for students, faculty members and alumni to interact and network with industry leaders.

Besides the extensive dialogue sessions, we have also decided to include seminar sessions that are focused on providing a more in-depth look into various financial issues. Thus, our i-Nights will take on a different approach, featuring lectures by popular guest speakers, which will see specific financial topics being taught to participants. This will give participants the opportunity to gain useful knowledge on various investments as well as investment strategies.

For the next entire academic year, the dialogue sessions and i-Nights will each run once a month. Thus, we will be having 5 dialogues and 5 i-Night seminars for the period September 2009 to March 2010. This is to ensure continuity and a steady programme framework to benefit and reach out to the entire NTU population.
